crochet failures/wins.

This morning has been relatively productive.  :D  I'm excited!

I was supposed to babysit for a friend this morning, but that action was canceled midway through my shower.  Sickness.
So there I was - awake at 8:00am with no reason to be.. and also showered.

That bit is important.  Had I not been showered, I would have hauled ass right back to bed.
But now.. oh - what to do with my clean self in this long stretch of daylight I had been thrust into?

I had planned to use the friend's oven to bake my heart out while watching the kid.  I would then spend the rest of the day (and the next couple of days) sanding and painting about a thousand (okay, like 12) Sculpey products..  my whole day canceled in one text message, how dramatic!  I'm not really complaining; I would rather her not be sick, but that's the important part - not whether or not I had plans.  :P

Its probably a little less than a mile's walk to 7/11 and back.  So I did.  Mmm, Snapple Tea.

I then decided to tackle the mean task of starting crochet.
Office Depot was so kind as to print a giant 40% coupon for Hobby Lobby yesterday ( really, it covered the whole page - the clerk really enjoyed it :B ), so I had bought one.. um.. package(?) of Lion Brand Yarn that was on sale and a Learn-To-Crochet kit.  The whole thing was about $7 total.. I love Hobby Lobby.  :D  Its so nice to live within 5 minutes of one instead of 2 hours.

no lights, digital camera - chain stitching action!

My Learn to Crochet book turned out to be a pretty useful lap rest as I read [ tutorials on deviantArt ] and watched videos on YouTube.  I have some trouble getting the rhythm down - I feel like a camel in snow boots trying to knit a sweater.  After about an hour I came up with what I hope is at least a mildly-successful chain stitch, though.  It looks okay to me.  Lots of people do this.  I can to this too.  My mother and aunts and grandma could all do this at some point - its totally in my blood!  I am an adult and I cannot be defeated by yarn!

I'm off to make something super successful out of this chain.
Wish me luck!
